Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
